Evaluation of the process of biomass export from marine protected areas and its impact on artisanal fisheries in the Western Mediterranean. more

In 2003 and 2004 samplings have been made from the longline fishery intended to capture Pagrus pagrus from winter start to spring end (winter longline), the longline fishery of Epinephelus marginatus during autumn (autumn longline) and the trammel fishery in summer. The latest can be directed both to capture Palinurus elephas (lobster trammel) as to capture different fish species, specially Scorpaena scrofa, (fish trammel). Sampling method: In each fishery action the shipments were random. For each of them, notes of the throw (e.g. initial and final buoy situation; time of drag and rise, depth, kind of bottom and target species) and the art (longline: number and kind of hooks, length of the line and distance between lines; trammel: number of net pieces, size of the inner netting in picks per inch, preservation state of the net). All the captured specimens were measured and identified to species level. The sampled longline fishery was performed between the 20 and 103 m depth with 3/0, 5/0 and 7/0 fishing hooks. The trammel fishing occurred between the 20 and 78 m with nets from 3, 3.5, 4 y 4.5 picks per inch.
