Description
Study of the effects of the presence of invasive macroalgae of the genus Caulerpa on Foraminifera in area's colonised by P. oceanica. more
The samples were collected seasonally during 2004 in two sites of Mallorca (Cala d’Or and Portals Vells). Un Cala d’Or, 10 sediment samples were collected dominated by Caulerpa taxifolia (samples CT1-CT4), C.prolifera (samples CP1-CP4) and Posidonia oceanica (samples PO1 and PO2). In Portals Vells, three sample of C.racemosa (CR1, CR3) and two of P. oceanica (PO3 and PO4) were taken. Samples of both study sites were separated at least 100m to avoid pseudoreplication. Sampling method: Sediment was collected from the areas colonized by invasive and autochthone macroalgae of the genus Caulerpa spp. And the phanerogam P. oceanica. The sampling was made by divers who insert methacrylate cores (3.5cm diameter, 3.5cm length) into the sediment. The collected sediment was sieved and a quantitative and qualitative analyze was made of the foraminifera associations.
